BUDICH International GmbH faced a challenge with a packaging machine for which the OEM could no longer provide a suitable solution.
This created a situation in which a defective part could lead to a prolonged production shutdown, with significant operational and financial consequences.
Together with Mr. Lehmann, we therefore developed an exclusive retrofit solution. We designed a new system with modified shafts and an adapter assembly, allowing the seal jaws to be replaced individually from now on.
The benefits go beyond solving an immediate problem:
◾ Prevention of production downtime and the associated losses
◾ Extension of the service life of the existing machine
◾ Shorter changeover times and faster maintenance
◾ Replacement of individual components instead of entire assemblies
◾ Lower long-term maintenance and upkeep costs
◾ Reduced dependence on OEM parts and support
Whereas a defective part used to pose a major risk to production continuity, a damaged seal can now be replaced in about 30 minutes.
This project demonstrates the value of custom engineering: not only does it provide a technical solution, but it also structurally reduces a machine’s Total Cost of Ownership and increases the availability of a production line.
